The questions most frequently asked are:
Who are the owners?
How long has the Beacon been around?
How did the Beacon get its name?
So, here go the answers ...
From a former pumpkin patch and cornfield. "The Beacon Tap" opened its doors on July
11th 1955. the Beacon's original owner's, Frank and Bernice, had already dabbed in
the bar business in the area and decided to give it a go again with the Beacon.
Back then , the three main bartenders, Frank, his brother John, and Gene
tended the bar in white aprons, shirts and bow ties from early morn
( 6:30 am ) til close ( 1:00am ).The Beacon's concept then,
as now, has been one of a "family" operation giving
you the best possible service.
Therefore, it's no secret why we know most of our customers by name...which brings
us to how the Beacon got its name. There's really no mystery surrounding the name
of the Beacon. Back in 1955 this area was mostly farmland. The landmark of the
area was O'Hare Airport, so being that beacons are indigenous to airplanes
and tap is
another name for tavern, there you have it - "The Beacon Tap".
Over the years
the ownership passed from Frank to his brother John and
his family, but the
Beacon itself remained physically the same until 1983.
Then, to the
delight of our customers, a beer garden was added along
with an
increased parking area. The next addition and renovation
was
completed, and since then the garden has been expanded
twice
with the latest renovation adding a Sand Volleyball
Court
The times our customers have spent here have
been
memorable and special to them and to us.
Here's hoping
we can make yours the same
